Headshots

Headshots will be taken this Saturday 10/13 and Saturday 10/20. The schedule will indicate when you are taking your headshots.

We are delighted to be working with a professional headshot photographer, Chuck Espinoza. Headshots will be available for purchase, as well as included in the program.  Please see below for some tips on how to get the most out of your child’s headshot.

From our Photographer Chuck Espinoza…

The actor’s headshot is their calling card. It’s used for castings and auditions as well as provide a reminder for agents and casting directors what the actor looks like after the audition is over. The headshot sessions with Haven is a great intro for those actors that have ambitions of branching out and is also a great way for new actors to get a feel for being behind a still camera.

My goal for a headshot is to create a welcoming and memorable portrait of the actor.  It needs to be an accurate likeness while still showing personality. The headshot session for Haven is quick and simple with the goal of featuring all of the actors involved in the production.

How best to prepare:

For the Haven session I will be using a grey backdrop. I’ve found that dark, solid-colored wardrobe will work best.  Pick a top with a simple neckline, for this shoot a T-shirt will work great. Make sure the shirt is pressed, and free of lint and pet hair the night before. My personal suggestion is to buy a new shirt for the headshot; it takes the stress of prep out of the equation and insures that the top will photograph well.

Beauty retouching

Retouching and Photoshop often get a bad rap because when used improperly or done with a heavy hand it brings negative attention to the art. The reality is that every professionally made image receives some level of work in Photoshop. Personally I believe that if the viewer can see my work then I’ve taken it too far. I want my subject to look well rested and at their best; I do not want to change the way they look.  As a professional photographer there are three stages in the process of preparing a photo. 1. The initial shot made by the camera without any enhancements. 2. The image after cropping, fine tuning brightness, color and contrast. 3. Lastly beauty retouching includes removing or reducing blemishes, softening wrinkles and making sure the image is a great finished product.
